The Horn Blowin' Preacher

Timothy D. Walker, Sr., aka., “The Horn Blowin’ Preacher”, delivers the new sound of JOSPEL, a combination of gospel music with a jazz undertone. Walker, a native of the South Side of Chicago, has completed two CD,s entitled “…Ears Have Not Heard” and “4-U”, which was released in the spring of 2008. Walker is presently promoting this new innovative sound in Southeastern and Midwestern states. In 2007-2008, Walker’s music was featured both locally and internationally, with appearances in Kankakee, IL; Mel Rose Park, IL; Joliet, IL;  Lagos, Nigeria; Monrovia, Liberia; Panama City, Panama  and Port of Spain, Trinidad/Tobago.

 

Timothy D. Walker started his musical journey at Wendell Phillips High School, Chicago, under the tutelage of renowned jazz pianist Willie Pickens. He also played sax and piano with his church choir under the direction of Dr. Robert E. Wooten, Sr. from the Wooten Choral Ensemble. Walker attended Fayetteville State University in North Carolina, where he received his Bachelors of Science in Music Education. Mr. Walker received his teaching certification and began teaching instrumental and choral music in the Chicago land area. While working in the Chicago Public and Private Schools, he was appointed musical director for The Rainbow PUSH Organization. Working directly with Reverend Jesse L. Jackson, Sr., Walker coordinated music for the weekly forums and the national conventions. Walker has also been a music consultant and clinician for the Archdiocese of Chicago in many of the local parishes. He has performed and recorded with Darius Brooks, Walter Whitman and the Soul Children of Chicago, the Wooten Choral Ensemble, Chicago Housing Authority Gospel Choir, the McDonalds Gospel Choir, Angela Spivey, Brian Jones and Chosen, the Chicago State University Community Jazz and Concert Band, Rex Peel and Testimony. Walker is presently the music director for the hit Mahdi Theater production, "Bronzeville the Musical". He also is the recipient of Black Theater Alliance of Chicago Duke Ellington Award for Best Musical Director in 2017.  

 

Mr. Walker accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior, and was called into the ministry and ordained as a Gospel Preacher in December of 1980. Rev. Walker presently serves as Assistant Pastor at the New Life Ministry Church in Chicago where Bishop Lannie and Pastor Phyllis Arnold presides. His goal is to spread the message of Jesus through music and preaching!
